This May SIPU International and Sweco completed the Swedish
phase of the Sida-financed International Training Programme Local
Environmental Management in Urban Areas. 26 participants from
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia and
Vietnam visited Stockholm for three weeks of intensive training.
This is the seventh time SIPU International and Sweco run this
ITP previously targeted on Southeast Africa and East
Europe. The main focus of the training is the participants own
project for change.
The programme in Sweden consisted of lectures, group exercises,
site visits and process work, always with an interactive
orientation to strengthen the participants' capacity to create
institutional change in their home organisations and countries.
Except for discussion on urban environment and examples of Swedish
solutions on environmental issues, the programme included a large
portion of seminars, lectures and exercises on team work and
project management.
In November the participants will meet again when SIPU
International and Sweco arrange the regional follow up in one of
the participating countries. The follow up will give them an
opportunity to share experiences on their project work as well as
strengthen their network in order to support each other's work.
