One-Stop Shop service delivery in Bhutan
2011-12-02
Bhutan is a small country with big mountains, deep valleys, and dispersed population in remote areas with difficult access. Providing equal service to citizens in all 205 gewogs (local authorities), many of which can only be reached on foot, is difficult and costly.
This is
a challenge that the Royal Government of Bhutan is solving with a
combination of e-government service development and one-stop shop
community centers in each gewog providing IT access and
over-the-counter assistance to citizens in their communities,
replacing costly and time-consuming travel to district centers, or
even the capital, trips that can take days.
SIPU is assisting the Royal Government of Bhutan and the
Ministry of Local Government in setting up these one-stop shop
services, as part of the Swiss Development Cooperation governance
support program 2008-2013.
